How to batch export multiple clips in Premiere from a single timeline

Earlier today I made a video carousel on Instagram, 15 videos in a single carousel. This was a test to see how an all-video carousel would turn out. It’s kind of like a reel with chapters.

A carousel of videos — like an Instagram reel with chapters

I made all the videos in Premiere on a single timeline, and I wanted to export all 15 videos at once. I didn’t want to have to set in/out points over and over again, and I didn’t want to queue up a bunch of videos manually. I figured this would be an easy thing. And it was, but not at first.

First I googled around, and the Google AI suggestion was like “Use Markers to Export” which sounded like a great idea… but Google was hallucinating. I kept digging through a few Adobe Premiere community threads, and found someone selling a plugin for $20.

So I was like wait, lets just make our own plugin.

So I opened Claude Code, and wrote:

Can we make a plugin for premiere which exports individual clips based on markers?

It took about about 5 minutes, and there it was, under Window > Extensions. I made a few tweaks to make the plugin more user friendly, but yeah Claude nailed it.

So now I can insert a bunch of markers in the timeline, and hit the “Export Video Clips” and it will export a bunch of mp4 files for me.

I published it as a public project here on Github.

The title of this blog post should probably be “How to Approach Problems for Video Editing Issues” or really, any digital problem can be approached in this way.

The old paradigm was to search and find other people with the same problem in hopes that there’s a solution. I still think Googling is helpful in case the solution exists, but then pivot quickly to solving it with your favorite AI coding tool (and share your solution online :)
