I looooove online generators. I love them so much, that I’ve started making them myself, both for fun and for clients. A few of mine even made it onto this list ;) I’ve always liked single-purpose sites that do one thing really well.
Cool, but … what’s an online generator?
An online generator is a single-use website that takes your input and turns it into something useful. This can be a calculator, converter, or a design tools. For example, with the VHS Label & Cover Generator below, you type in a movie title and out comes a ready-to-print label.

11. BrowserFrame Generator for Screenshots
Take a screenshot, paste it into BrowserFrame, and it instantly addsa clean browser toolbar and dropshadow that you can download. This is perfect for showing website mockups etc, and you can emulate a variety of different browser screenshots with it.
10. VHS Label & Cover Generator
This is a website I built to make it easy to create custom VHS Slipcovers and more, simply by typing in the name of the movie into the search bar and hitting enter — It instantly generates a full cover design using assets from TMDB for movies and shows, and I’ve expanded it into other modes as well like cassette, DVD, vinyl, minidisc, and more.
9. Audio Cassette J-card Generator
I’ve been working on my own cassette label tool, but in the meantime I found this excellent little app for making custom sleeves for your cassettes. It’s super simple to print and looks great.
8. Stair Rise Calculator
I worked with the people who built this many years ago on a series of apps and websites, and I’ve just always loved this stair rise-run calculator. This has long been an inspiration, its really fun to play with.
7. Remove Background from Photos
Removing backgrounds is one of the hardest image edits to do by hand, especially with details like frizzed hair or motion blur. This tool handles both surprisingly well. In fact, I’ve found it often does a better job than Photoshop.
6. Generating Email “Mailto” Links
Here’s one I use a lot for generating email mailto links. This is useful if you want people to send you an email that already has the subject and body pre-filled, like try clicking on this link and you’ll see how it creates an email to me already prefilled.
5. Bend Deduction Calculator
Bend a 10-inch piece of metal, and the outer edge ends up longer than the inner edge. The difference depends on thickness, and this calculator tells you exactly how much material you’ll lose.
4. Convert Case Generator
This has been in my toolkit for more than a decade. Need to switch a chunk of text to uppercase, lowercase, or title case? Done. I also use it when I need a quick character count.
3. Neumorphic CSS Generator
I love skeuomorphic and neumorphic design, even though I rarely use them in projects. Still, it’s fun to see this generator in action.
2. Cool Text Generator — Glyphy
There’s a lot of these kinds of text generators, but I really like Glphy’s website. The design is clean, the options are playful, and it’s just enjoyable to experiment with.
1. Copper Patina Calculator
This is another one I made! This is a copper timeline generator that I built as a proof of concept. It shows how copper ages over time. Most people don’t realize how quickly copper darkens, and also how long it can take to get to green under certain conditions. How long it stays in this state depends largely on the weather, pollution, etc. So this calculator estimates how long it takes to finally get to the “green” state.
