Cool Flag & Map Websites

I’ve been working on this Flagthousand project for over a decade, and during the process I’ve come across some cool sites, listed below. If you have a flag or map project you’d like me to list, comment below or send me an email.

Flagwaver

Flagwaver is a web tool for turning any image into a waving flag. You can upload an image or point it at an image on the web. You can even use a url parameter like I did with the link above.

Flag ID

Flagid is a web tool for identifying flags (1,360+) from around the world. You can search by elements, shapes, colors and partitions, as well as use AI tools to id flags.

The World Flag Chart ( Flag Log)

This is a great resource that you can check to see what national flags have changed over time. My favorite part is that you can see a log of all the changes by clicking the “Updates” tab at the top. This feature is particularly useful for me, since I’m building and maintaining a map of all the flags in the world:

Flag Thousand (flagthousand.com)

This is a zoomable map of ~1000 flags that I started working on in 2010, and recently picked back up around 2025. The goal of the map is to document most every flag of nation and their subdivisions (so the states and province flags), and to have a quick resource that I can use to help identify flags.

This map shows North American English dialects based on pronunciation.
